Retail storefronts are valuable marketing real estate. This is especially true when they face prominent pedestrian areas with high foot traffic. Mannequins, purposefully void of detail, give the passerby the chance to imagine themselves in a brand’s clothes or accessories. Now, thanks to augmented reality, little imagination is needed.
At the Coach store on Prince Street in Soho, New York, a large, pink-framed digital mirror sits in the window facing outwards towards the street. As people pass by, the mirror uses augmented reality technology to place the brand’s Tabby bag in their hands; a white, pebbled leather version of the bag with gold hardware is accompanied by animated white and gold flowers, while a purple plush leather version adds iridescent wings.
